Matterz Interview: Metaxas

Hi Metaxas! Thank you so much for talking to us. How are you today?

Hi. I'm doing great thanks

What draw you to the folk/downtempo genre?

Well it's quite interesting that I am equally drawn to folk and electronic music. Coming from a guitar and vocal background, I'm used to crafting songs in a folk container. But I've been so into many electronic acts that the influence was inevitable So I started experimenting with my own music

You graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, do you see a big difference with the music scene in the UK compared to that of the USA?

It's not so much the scene as much as it was a change of environment for me. In Boston I felt like there was a saturation of musicians trying to "make it". Berklee alone has upwards of 5000 students so the area is always full of young aspiring musicians; which is great because the scene is buzzing from talent. But ultimately I had to remove myself from that place to really find my voice and free myself of constant distractions.

You were a supporting act for Ronan Keating. How has that experience shaped you now as an artist?

It was the most positive touring experience I have ever had. It really showed me how someone with such a strong star power can be a normal great guy, that values family, friendship and being a good person. It was humbling. Everyone was extremely kind and supportive. Fam

As a songwriter you write most if not all of your own material, do you ever suffer from writer’s block and how do you deal with it?

I do actually. There are major dry spells that I go through but I have learned not to force anything. If I'm blocked, it usually means some other piece of my existence is lacking so I just focus on living for a while and experiencing different things. That usually gets me back in the studio all fired up

What kind of experiences most influence your writing?

Anything and everything. My mind never stops. Always thinking about a plethora of stuff so there's an abundance of material to draw from. Triggers are all around us so we just have to pay attention, and thats what I try to do
Can we expect an album by the end of 2017?

Probably not this year but definitely in 2018

Matterz Live: Shaodow – Album Launch @ Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen

Listen to ShaoDow's single 'Accent' ft McLean
Shaodow’s concert at Hoxton last Sunday was dope. Being a part of this was like a rave party in the hip-hop scene, strange to say it like that but it’s the best way to describe the feeling of the night.
When Shaodow hit the stage, the audience went crazy. The opening was really impressive as he started his performance with some techniques inspired by Kung Fu. For those of you who do not know his story, Shaodow was taught Kung Fu as a teenager in China and the martial art has marked his life. Inspired by Shaolin’s way of life and theories, he tried to introduce all these elements to his performance (giving new perspectives) and many parts of the show referred to these techniques, creating a more sophisticated ambiance.

Shaodow says that his new album is ‘the culmination of 2 years of hard work, creativity and career progression condensed into audio form and then thrown at you like a Ninja Star.’ So true! He prepared distinctive …

Hi Paris! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. How are you today?
Im amazing thanks and I'm looking forward to Christmas and having a great time promoting my new track "My Addiction" which is out on January 27th!
You are about to release your song ‘My Addiction’. How does it feel?
Exciting- in a word! But more than that I just feel really grateful that I am able to share the music and video with everybody. I spent years as a kid dreaming of releasing music and to be actually doing it really is a dream come true!
Can you tell us a little bit more about the backstory of ‘My Addiction’?
Ofcourse! the track is about addiction to anything. Drugs, sex, alcohol, love, the lot! its more about the emotions that being addicted to something convey instead of a dependence on anything or anyone in particular. It depends on how it resonates with the listener as to what it relates to.
Besides working on your new music are there any hints you can share with us about possible future …
